Bhubaneswar: In a major success for the Odisha police at least 211 Maoist sympathizers have surrendered before the district police at Malkangiri on Monday.
The extremist supporters have surrendered before the Superintendent of Police of Malkangiri, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
The cops took a patient hearing of the problems of Maoists and their sympathizers during the surrender. They assured the ultras and their sympathizers that the police will ensure implementation of various welfare measures under the rehabilitation policy.
All the sympathizers belong to Sanagumma and Bara villages under Mathili police station.
Earlier on the day, 50 supporters had surrendered while, as per latest reports at least 211 left wing extremist sympathizers had already gave up arms before SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. They were working for the Darabha division, sources said.
Notably, with calls from the administration to give up arms and return to normal socio-economic stream, promise of insurance of amenities for doing so, around 1,000 Maoist sympathizers have surrendered in the district in last two months.
