JEYPORE: Koraput police on Saturday detained three Maoists, including a hardcore cadre, in connection with the landmine blast near Kurlipadu forest under Pottangi police limits.
Security forces started a massive manhunt in Pottangi, Nandapur, Padua and Kutia pockets to trace the Left Wing Extremists involved in the blast on March 20. On that day, Maoist leader Jayaram of Maoist Action Team under Odisha-Andhra Pradesh Zonal Committee of Maoists was killed and two others sustained injures while planting landmines in the forest. The other ultras fled towards Andhra Pradesh after the incident.
To check infiltration, vigil at all check points was tightened and all routes between the two States were sealed. This led to arrest of three suspects in bordering Ampabali forest. They have been taken to unidentified location for interrogation, sources said.
“We are interrogating the detained persons for their alleged role in planting explosive devices in Kurlipadu forest,” said a senior police officer of Koraput engaged in Maoist operation.
Meanwhile, joint operations by Odisha Police and Border Security Force have been intensified in Pottangi, Lamtaput, Nandapur, Boipariguda, Laxmipur, Bandhugam and Narayanpatna following intelligence inputs about presence of over 100 Maoists in bordering jungles of Koraput.
Sources said the cadres are fleeing from neighbouring Bastar, Sukma, Bijapur, Konta, Dantewada and Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh and entering Odisha after massive police operation in that State.
