Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has warned Nuapada collector and SP of coercive action over non-compliance of its order on a bonded labourer issue.
On April 5, the rights panel directed them to provide monetary relief to the victim and submit the proof of payment in six weeks. They have been asked to submit the inquiry report within four weeks.
Rights campaigner Subash Mohapatra had moved the commission over alleged torture of a tribal woman at Larka village under Boden police limits in the district. The woman was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in the village in 2014 when she along with her husband asked them for wages.
“Police had registered a case under sections 341/294/323/354/506/34 of the IPC and section of Scheduled Caste /Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, but they did not invoke the Bonded Labour (Abolition) Act,” Mohapatra alleged. The NHRC has also sought clarification on the bonded labour issue as alleged by the complainant.
