KORAPUT: Director general of police (DGP) K B Singh, along with senior officers of Odisha Police, on Friday reviewed the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts.The DGP expressed satisfaction over the anti-Maoist operations being jointly carried out by police and paramilitary forces. “The Maoist offensives were all-time low in these districts last year. Barring a few stray incidents, no major violence was reported owing to planned combing operations,” he told mediapersons at Koraput.Singh said police cannot afford to be complacent and the combing operations will be intensified in the coming days.
“Pushed to the wall, the Maoists are killing villagers to create panic in these districts. We have worked out a strategy to tackle such offensives. Additional forces will be deployed in the bordering areas to check influx of Maoists from Chhattisgarh,” he said.On Thursday night, the Maoists reportedly killed a tribal youth in Koraput district.
