Rayagada, Jan 10:
Acting on the orders of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Rayagada district administration has started taking action against NFSA (National Food Security Act) card holders that are not eligible.
In the first phase, the district administration has filed FIRs against 48 ineligible NFSA ration card holders for applying and possessing digitized rations cards under the scheme.
While 24 of these FIRs have been lodged at Rayagada Police Station, another 13 cases have been filed at Chandili Police Station. Similarly, four FIRS were registered at Bissamcuttack Police Station and at Kalyansinghpur Police Station each and two FIRs were registered at Tikiri and Kasipur Police Stations each.
As per reliable sources, a government doctor’s wife has also possessed the ration card violating the existing guidelines and is among the 48 booked.
“The verification process is still on. FIRs will be filed against the perpetrators who have applied and obtained the cards against the existing guidelines. We had earlier served a notice asking the ineligible cardholders to submit their NFSA cards back between January 1 and 15 as per the State Government directives. This process is also on,” said District Supply Officer Nilakantha Mohanty.
