NUAPADA/RAYAGADA: The bandh call given by CPI(Maoists) on Friday was partially successful in the district. While there was complete shutdown in eight gram panchayats under Nuapada block, the bandh had no impact in other areas.
However, inter-district bus services were hit in areas where Mainpur-Nuapada division of the banned outfit operates.
Nuapada SP Pinak Mishra said the effect of the bandh was limited to a small pocket in the district and security personnel were deployed in large numbers to avoid any untoward incident.
At Rayagada as well, the bandh evoked mixed response. Passenger vehicles and OSRTC buses remained off the road.
Maoist posters and banners were found in three villages under Rayagada district on Thursday. In the posters put up at Kalyansinghpur and Hatamuniguda villages under Bisamcuttack and Dahikhal village in Muniguda block, the ultras called upon the people to support their bandh call. In the posters, they accused the BJP Government at the Centre of ‘dancing to the tunes’ of the RSS and fuelling intolerance in the country.
Combing has been intensified in these three areas
