Bhubaneswar: In yet another such incident, a farmer in Kalahandi district committed suicide due to crop loss and load burden on Tuesday.
According to sources, one Purna Chandra Bhoi of Ramchandrapur villager under the K Gaon area of the district consumed pesticide while under stress.
Bhoi had incurred around Rs 60, 000 from different sources to grow cotton and cash crops. But all his crops were damaged due to water scarcity.
Besides, he was under mental agony as he, despite attempts, couldn’t get his son admitted in the newly opened Adarsha Vidyalaya. His son is now studying in Navodaya Vidyalaya.
Family members said Purna had been admitted in the Dharmagarh hospital for treatment. However, he couldn’t be saved by doctors. He died on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, BJP activists have blocked the Dharmagarh-Bhawanipatna road keeping the body of the farmer on the road. They demanded adequate compensation for the deceased family.
