KORAPUT: Hundreds of labourers took out a rally under the aegis of Nirman Sramika Mahasangha in Koraput on Wednesday demanding basic facilities for them.
They said the State Government has introduced several labour welfare schemes but the Koraput administration is yet to implement them. The agitators also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, through the ADM Ekadashi Jena. In the memorandum, they demanded hike of pension for labourers to Rs 2,000 from the existing Rs 500, minimum daily wages of Rs 400 besides, provision of land, house and ration cards to registered labourers.
Man Killed in Accident
A man died in a road accident near Mohanpoda village under Sunabeda police limits on Wednesday morning. The deceased is Laxman Harijan of Majhiguda village under Bisinghpur police limits. He was grazing his cattle when a speeding vehicle ran over him. Though he was rushed to Koraput Hospital, he succumbed.
