One BSF jawan was killed on the spot and two others were seriously injured in a landmine explosion by Maoists in Kaliajhola Forest under Boipariguda block in Koraput district where BSF jawans were carrying out a combing operation on Friday.
The killed jawan was identified as Shibasis Panda. One of the two jawans of who were admitted in the District Head Quarter Hospital, Koraput died in the hospital. He has been identified as Sunil Behera, Deputy Commandant of BSF. – Earlier hours before twelve hour bandh call from Friday in Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi district by Maoists, they unleashed terror by killing a businessman Bapi Samant of Dandabadi village under Boipariguda block of Koraput district on Thursday night.
According to reports a group of Maoists and some villagers dragged Bapi Samant from his house and shot him dead. His body was found on the outskirts of the village on Friday, sources said.
They also ransacked the house of the businessman and burnt down 4-wheeler in front of his house. The Maoist killed Bapi Samant suspecting him to be a police informer.
In December, the Maoist had set on fire three mobile towers in Boipariguda block of Koraput district in Odisha. The bandh call was given by the Maoists to protest against the deployment of Police and Central Para-military forces engaged in operation Green Hunt, a joint anti-Maoists drive.
