NABARANGPUR: Mondei, the three-day annual cultural extravaganza that showcases Nabarangpur’s rich cultural heritage, began on a colourful note on Tuesday.
The Mondei carnival began from Maa Bhandargharani temple along the Mahatma Gandhi Marg to the main venue where a number of traditional folk dances were performed by various troupes which came from across the district. The carnival started after the guests and district administration officials offered prayers to Goddess Bhandargharani, the presiding deity of the town.
Tribal Welfare Minister Lalbihari Himirika, Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, MLA Manohar Randhari, Odisha Film Development Corporation Chairperson Muna Khan and Sub-Collector Gavali Parag Harshad participated in the carnival. Besides the traditional folk dance troupes, hundreds of townsfolk took part in the parade.
A five-day Pallishree Mela is being held along with the Mondei festival. As many as 200 stalls have been put up at the Mela.
