Koraput: A sub-inspector, Prem Kumar Jena, of Bandhugaon police station was suspended for reportedly beating up a tribal couple. “After getting a complaint we ordered an inquiry into the incident and the action was taken based on the report,” said SP (Koraput) C S Meena.
On Friday, Gangadhar Haraka of Jaguguda village had complained that the sub-inspector summoned him, his wife and son to the police station on April 26 and allegedly thrashed them. They had been summoned following a complaint filed by his daughter-in-law over a family dispute.
In a memorandum to the Odisha Human Rights Commission, secretary of home department and district SP, Haraka alleged that the sub-inspector badly injured his wife by kicking her with his boot and demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe to settle the case. The SP had asked DSP of Human Righst Protection Cell Narahari Naik to inquire into the matter.
On Sunday, Naik visited the village and recorded statement of the victims and villagers. Medical examination of the victim was also carried out.
