Bhubaneswar: The Malkangiri police have succeeded in cracking the murder of a couple of lovebirds by arresting six persons, including a village head after six months of the crime.
The Padia police arrested Rogadapalli village head Sukha Dula (60), Aita Madhi (50), Kamira Mamala (28), Budra Madhi (32), Duli Madhi (50) and Budra Madhi (25). They all were sent to jail after the court rejected their bail pleas.
According to police, they all were involved in the murder of a lover duo stated to be uncle and niece in Maoist infested Dhakadapalli village under Maneru panchayat in the district.
Local Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) M Sandip Sampad in a press conference said that lover duo stated to be uncle and niece were in affairs. After the matter came to light, the villagers beat them mercilessly and ostracized them from the village. After leaving the village the love duo was working as daily labourers in a village bordering Chhattisgarh.
However, on November 18, the villagers had called the duo to the village for a compromise. When the boy and the girl refused to separate from each other, the villagers beat them black and blue in panchayat and threw them in Sabarei river by inserting them in a sack. The bodies were later traced by some people at Dermapali in neighbouring Chhattisgarh on November 26.
After committing the crime, the six accused fled from the village. The police nabbed them by raiding Togdapalli and Markaguda on Wednesday.
