Nabarangpur: Proving that, superstitious practices still rules the roost in society–at-least in several remote patches of Odisha– another ailing child has been branded with hot iron, in Nabarangpur, recently. This particular incident makes a more critical one as no quack but the father of the child carried on the treatment. The child is now safe after being rushed to a hospital under in a serious condition.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Mahuvata village under Raighara Police limits in Nabarangpur district on February 19. As Rama Ganda’s eight-monts-old infant boy was not recovering from Asthma despite all efforts, he resorted to a old method of treatment his father used to practice. On the fateful day, Rama Ganda branded the infant with hot iron only realizing that, the condition of the infant further deteriorated. Later on the infant was rushed to Umarkot hospital and later on to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital.
To go by the statements of the doctors treating the baby, he is now out of danger and improving, The incident has created shock-waves in the district, which has seen several similar cases in the recent past.
