Lanjigarh: Vedanta Limited bestowed “Vedanta Gyanshree award 2016” to six meritorious students this year, continuing its efforts to promote quality education in Kalahandi. They were presented a Laptop and a memento by the company during the district’s biggest folk-fair Kalahandi UtsavGhumura 2016. The meritorious students of class 10th, Sourav Rout (SaraswatiSishuVidyaMandir, Brajvihar), SwetapravaJyotirmayee (SaraswatiSishuVidyaMandir, Mukhiguda), ShivamMahapatra (Vimla Convent School, Bhawanipatna), Ms. Arundhati Das (Vimla Convent School, Bhawanipatna), V. Sai Subhankar (KendriyaVidyalaya) and Sonia Sahu (JawaharNavodayaVidyalaya, Narla) received the award from Mr. Anam Naik, Hon’ble MLA, Bhawanipatna and Mr. Jalaj Malpani, VP & CFO, Vedanta Limited’s aluminium division in Lanjigarh. Mr. Jagannath Mohanty, DM & Collector, Rayagada was present among other dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Malpani stressed upon the need of Industrialization in Kalahandi. Citing examples of dying industries in the district such as sugar mill at Bhawanipatna, Oil complex and chilling plant at Kesinga, spinning mill at Bhawanipatna, Sugar factory at Mathura and rail factory near Lanjigarh road, etc, he highlighted that developed towns such as Paradeep, Sunabeda, Anugul, Rourkela and Jharsuguda, etc. are doing good because of industrialization in those areas. He also urged people of Kalahandi to come forward and support Vedanta and other industries for the development of the region. Vedanta also set up a corporate stall in the Utsav which was adjudged as the2nd Best stall out of 320 stalls in the event. Mr. Shibadatta Mishra, PR Executive and Mr. Srikant Bohidar, CSR Executive fromVedanta Limited, Lanjigarh received the award on behalf of the company from Mr. Puspendra Singh Deo,Housing and Urban Development Minister, Government of Odisha. The audience appreciated the efforts of Vedanta towards promoting quality education in the region through various CSR projects such as Vedanta DAV International School, Mid-day meal partnering state Govt., and project Shiksha to reduce high School dropouts in the locality, among others. The Gyanshree Award is designed to felicitate the meritorious students and toppers of the 10th Board Examination in Kalahandi district. The scheme was initiated in the year 2007-08 when Vedanta Limited’s aluminium division in Lanjigarh proposed to be part of the education promotion process in Kalahandi district and encourage the outperforming students of ICSE, CBSE, OBSE board in the district.
